Brentwood Barn Door Review
Overall, we're pleased with our barn door from Barndoorz. The door came packed sufficiently to protect it during transport. The finish is very nice. It's very solid and sturdy. In fact, I'm shocked at how much the door weighs (compounded by the fact that it's 42" wide and 8' tall). I have only two constructive criticisms. One, the installation instructions tell you to drill a 5/16" hole to attach the rail to your header. That may be correct for the bolts with anchors but that hole size is much too large for the lag screws for attaching the rail to a wood header. This was a significant problem when I went to mount the rail to the header using the provided lag screws as the holes were same size as the lag screws. This forced me to have to fill the holes, drill new holes and shift my rail a couple inches one direction which then forced me to have to cut the rail to work properly with this new install plan. All because the instructions do not specify the 5/16" bit size is only appropriate if you're not using the lag screws. My second criticism is the hole routed on the inside of the door for the pocket handle was not deep enough to allow the pocket handle to sit flush with the door. Due to the rounded edges on the depression of the pocket handle I had to file away the edges of the routed opening to accommodate the pocket handle so it would sit flush. For the price of the door I wouldn't expect to have to spend time making sure their pocket handle fits in the routed hole flush. All in all, we're pleased with the door, the hardware, and the soft close mechanism. Just frustrated by a few aspects of the installation as detailed above.
